Reproduction of colors by branches

There are two options for breeding plants with branches. Each consists in the fact that the new plant gets its own roots, being not cut off from the mother plant (otherwise it will be cuttings). While the branch takes root, the mother plant provides it with nutrients.

The first method consists in diverting and bending the side shoot from the bush to the ground, and its re-establishment. I.e. if the bush has flexible or grassy shoots, one of them can be bent to the ground in the same pot or put the pot next to it. Attach the branch to the ground with a paper clip or press it with a pebble, do not cut off from the mother plant until roots are formed. Under the influence of soil moisture and stagnation of sap movement, due to the bending of shoots, they take root.

Thus, philodendrons, tradescantia, ficus pumila, cissuses, ivy, citrus fruits, roses, rhododendrons, etc. can be rooted. This method is quite rare in indoor floriculture, since most plants that can be propagated in this way are easily rooted by cuttings. It is best to breed with branches in the spring on annual shoots. In this case, the middle part of the branch should be immersed in the ground, and the upper one should be raised above it. If it is necessary to root woody shoots (for example, citrus fruits), then at the place where the branch will be immersed in the ground, a bark incision is made on it towards the top of the branch, and the branch is tied to a peg for strength.

Some flowers, such as davallia, form branches on the air roots - "hare" legs (photo above). They take root very easily. A cut section of the root with a branch is placed on the surface of moistened soil and pressed with a pebble. Shaggy roots are not sprinkled with earth, otherwise they can rot. The pot is placed in a bag and ventilated twice a day for 30 minutes.

The method of extraction is applicable on plants with thick woody trunks (aralia, ficuses - benjamin, rubber-bearing, dracens) that cannot be bent to the ground, and for some reason cannot be drawn, they are removed in an upright position. To do this, on the branch that they want to divert, make an incision or remove the bark in the form of a narrow ring, 5-7 mm wide is enough. Below this, a polyethylene bag or transparent plastic cup is fixed around the trunk. The bag is filled with loose peat earth or sphagnum moss, which must be moist all the time. Then the bag is fixed higher along the trunk. After rooting (roots become noticeable through a transparent bag or cup walls), the cut branch - branch, cut. The remaining bottom can be used on cuttings. This method of reproduction is often used when the lower part of the trunk of the plant is exposed, and it has lost its decorative attractiveness, and the crown is beautiful, but too large, for rooting as a handle.
