Salvage of weights

Echinocactus Gruzon among the members of the forum enjoys special attention: it is he who is saved most often. But if you carefully read all the messages on this topic, one more thing will be clear: Gruzon is probably one of the most persistent and patient cacti! And only the gross mistakes of leaving ruin him, first of all the malicious bay. The most common cause of the bay is transplanting a purchased cactus and lavishly watering afterwards. At the same time, young cargo carriers tolerate such treatment a little easier, but the older and more solid the purchased copy, the easier it is to ditch it with their care. It is possible to save flooded loads only by re-rooting. If you do not delay, then you can save.

The purchased cactus was transplanted into completely unsuitable soil and watered too abundantly after transplantation. This is what the sinker looked like just five days after that.

We must pay tribute to the owner, he did everything to save his pet: all the rot was cut off, and a small residue of the cactus was put to dry.

Unfortunately, there was no continuation of the story, so the result is unknown. As a rule, in half of the cases, after such rots, cacti survive, children form at the cut sites, which can then be removed and grown.

I can't help but quote the hostess's story:

"I bought echinocactus about 2 weeks ago. Watered a little 1 time. Then I noticed brown spots from below, not soft, but hard. And above these spots, the skin began to wrinkle slightly. And the thorns began to darken. The first thought was that he was drying. Well, I watered it well. She also left water in a saucer for half an hour. A couple of days later, after reading the information on the Internet, I began to doubt the correctness of my actions. I decided to transplant him and see what is with his roots. The roots were not rotten, but on the surface of the earth they found microscopic bugs of white color and oval shape. I decided to process it for half an hour in hot water (somewhere I read that the roots need to be steamed at a temperature of 50 degrees). Then she sprinkled the roots with crushed activated charcoal and left to dry for 20 hours. Since there was almost no land in the pot, I bought him special land for cacti in the store and put it in a larger pot the next day. I also forgot to say that immediately after the transplant, I greased it with a slightly brushed brush dipped in apple cider vinegar. I read somewhere that it was necessary to wipe it with alcohol from pests, I didn't have it, so I decided with vinegar..."

Pay attention to how much the cargo has endured! I think in his place everyone would decide that it is much better to die...

This cactus was looked after like this (I quote the hostess): "In the summer: the earth is wet all the time, and in the winter it watered only when it dries (it subtracted on some site), stands on the southwest window, sprayed every day in the winter, splashed against ticks." It is not surprising that the cactus rotted and died as a result.

This specimen is the victim of a misunderstanding of wintering:

The hostess considered that if it was not possible to reduce the temperature in winter, then the cactus would not winter, and it should be "watered once a month a little bit." I decided not to pay attention to the fact that the cargo stopped growing. It's hard to say what "a little bit" is, but when this weight was taken out of the pot, the ground was wet, and the roots were already falling off voluntarily (the result of the high air temperature in the room and a cold draft on the windowsill, right on the wet roots).

Moral: the concept of "a little bit" is different for everyone, you need to rely not on the volume of water or the frequency of irrigation by day, but on the state of the soil - it must always have time to dry out. The drying process should not take longer than 3 days.

Here again, standard actions: watering after transplantation and not very good wintering. But in this case, the conditions of the cactus were better: it wintered at 25 degrees and when watered once a month with two glasses of water (!). With this cargo, they did not fully understand whether there was rot or not (they did not tell us about the fate of the cactus), but he had a positive forecast.

And finally - an example of the courage and resilience of all cargo! Gruzon Vlady - it began to be flooded after the purchase and continued systematically for several months.

They flooded for two whole years, and only after that he became like that.

All this time, the hostess did not change anything in her care and waited for someone to tell her what to do...

Moral: if your plant is unhealthy, do not wait until someone virtually diagnoses, firstly, read the requirements for care yourself, and secondly, note that it is statistically reliable - the main problem with cacti is related to waterlogging of the soil. First of all, think about whether you are properly watering cacti.

Features of cactus cultivation

To reduce the number of rescued cargo and other cacti, I want to once again recall a few general provisions:

  1. All succulent plants (including sinkers) belong to those that store moisture, like a camel in the desert: watering well once and then not watering for a long time is correct, but watering is often and a little absolutely contraindicated!
  2. Wintering for a cactus is the same as sleeping for a person: it is necessary to sleep, during sleep none of us eats or drinks, so the cactus is not watered on vacation, much less fed.
  3. During transplantation, the cactus loses a large number of thin suction roots. If you water it immediately after transplantation, it will still have nothing to drink your water, but for thick roots and root neck, such an amount of moisture will definitely lead to decay. Exactly the same situation after wintering: there are no suction roots, they dried over the winter, and therefore it is better to spray the cactus in the spring until it grows these roots.
  4. The body of sinkers is not heavily protected from the sun, so do not spray them in direct sunlight and shade in summer at the hottest noon to avoid burns.
  5. The older and accordingly more cargo, the less water he needs (he has more of his own supply).
