In nature, the cootra family consists of more than 5,000 species of various plants. But among the coaster indoor plants there are about twenty species. This is an extensive family of dicotyledons in the form of trees, shrubs and shrubs, vines, perennial grasses and even succulents, common in tropical and subtropical areas of the entire globe.

The Kutrovy family includes five subfamilies:

  • Kutra Apocynoideae
  • Flippers Asclepiadoideae
  • Periplocoideae
  • Rauvolfiaceae Rauvolfioideae
  • Secamonoideae

Distinctive features can be described as follows: Kutrovy have, as a rule, simple leaves, oppositely located on the stems. Plants contain milky juice and poisonous alkaloids. Therefore, the ingress of juice from the stems, leaves and flowers of plants into the mouth can cause not only a burn of the mucous membrane, but also poisoning.

The flowers are solitary or collected in inflorescences, bisexual. The corolla is five-membered, passing into a narrow tube. Most cootra stem cuttings breed in spring and seeds.

By the way, the fins are now assigned to the kutrov family as a subfamily - these are the well-known hoyas, stephanotis, stapels, etc.

Care for kutrovy

  • Content in summer at normal room temperature, in winter in the cool about 12-14 °
  • C.
  • The place for kutrovs is chosen, as a rule, in bright diffused light with a certain amount of direct sunlight in the morning or evening. For some coutras, shading is not required at all. But any plants after a cloudy winter are gradually accustomed to the spring sun. In the summer, after the threat of severe night cold snaps has passed, the plants can be taken out into the garden.
  • Watering is required in the summer plentiful, in winter it is much more moderate, depending on the temperature in the room, not allowing only re-drying of the earthen coma. Most kutrovs do not tolerate waterlogging, their roots easily rot.
  • During the
  • period of growth and flowering, cootra must be fertilized. For this purpose complex mineral fertilisers are used for decorative-flowering or decorative-deciduous plants. For some large tree-like plants, such as oleander, fertilization of mineral and organic fertilizers can be alternated. At the same time, succulent plants, like pachypodium, are fed only with mineral fertilizers and no more than 1 times a month.
  • Young plants are transplanted annually, old after 2-3 years. Soil mixture of 3- 4 parts of turf and 2 parts of sheet earth, 2 parts of humus or greenhouse earth with the addition of 1 part of sand. It is better to make drainage in a pot or tub. During transplantation, partial pruning of roots in large tuberous plants can be carried out.

Of course, representatives of the Kutrovy family are poisonous, but, as you know, many drugs are made from poisonous substances.

Alkaloids contained in the juice of these plants are able to lower blood pressure, have sedative properties, dilate the vessels of the brain (Devinkan alkaloid - the drug of the same name "Devinkan," made from periwinkle leaves, is used for hypertension and neurogenic tachycardia); have a pronounced hypotensive and sedative effect (reserpine alkaloid - the drug of the same name "Reserpine," used in the treatment of mental illness and neurosis).

Extracts from the roots of rauwolfia (kurta family), which grows in India, are used by the local population as an antidote for bites of poisonous insects, for disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, for the treatment of mental illness and as a means of toning the muscles of the uterus.

Some kutrov seeds (for example, strophant) contain cardiac glycosides and therefore they are used in medicine for heart defects, acute heart failure, pulmonary edema, heart asthma, infectious diseases, etc.

By the way

Some cutters, like oleander or cataranthus, despite their poisonous juice for humans, are very susceptible to attacks by scutes and spider mites. This is facilitated by too warm wintering and dry air. Therefore, if plants winter at temperatures above 17 ° C, do not forget to spray them regularly.
