Adromiscus

Fat family. Homeland - South Africa (Cape), Namibia. About 50 species are common in nature. The distribution area of Adromiscus is close to aizoonic: deserts, as well as the mountains of South Africa. Therefore, the conditions of detention are generally similar.

Adromiscus is a slow-growing but very attractive succulent plant with a shortened stem and numerous fleshy leaflets. The inflorescence is spike-shaped. The flowers are five-lobed, the petals fused into a tube. The most popular species are those with red and dark green spots on the leaves, but, unfortunately, when cultivated in an insufficiently lit room, these spots disappear.

  • Cooper's adromiscus Adromischus cooperi is a strongly branched, erect perennial about 10 cm tall with smooth pillow-shaped green leaves. In the bright sun, a burgundy-brown spotted pattern appears.
  • Pelnitz's adromiscus Adromischus poellnitzianus - the stem of this plant is covered with a whole beard of red-brown roots. The leaves are pale green with a rough surface.
  • Adromiscus three-lobed (three-columnar) Adromischus trigynus - leaves are inversely ovate or almost rounded, flattened on the underside, gray-green usually with red spots.
  • Adromiscus Schuldianus Adromischus schuldtianus - literally can be translated into Russian as Adromiscus sinful. It is distinguished by a light gray color of back-ovate leaves, flattened with a pointed tip and a slightly wavy edge, marked by a contrasting purple-brown stripe.

Care for Adromiscus

Fans of succulent plants often compose flower compositions, planting various plants in one planter or pot. This, of course, looks very beautiful, but as for Adromiscus, our flower growers advise planting succulents in one pot not with thick ones, but together with aizoonic ones (titanopsis, trichodiadema, faucaria, pleiospilos), it is easier and more correct to carry out care.

Temperature: Moderate in summer, it is better to shade in the heat so that the plants do not burn out. In winter, it is advisable to keep at 8-12 ° C without watering. Can be kept on an insulated balcony from April to October.

Lighting: Bright sunny: south, south-east, south-west windows without shading. A sunny balcony is desirable in summer. Slight redness of leaves is allowed. It is very important that fresh air is available in the summer.

Watering: In summer, adromiscus is watered moderately, allowing the soil to dry well between watering. The plant does not tolerate excess moisture even during growth. In winter, watering is stopped, subject to cold wintering. If the plant is kept at room temperature, watering is rare and cautious. The most important mistake in care is waterlogging, when they try to water as soon as the soil has dried from above, but you need to wait another 4-6 days with watering, or more, depending on the temperature.

Air humidity: Tolerates dry air, does not need spraying.

Transplant: To prevent rot, the plant needs a very loose, well-drained substrate and a low pot (plate). The soil is a mixture of sheet humus, sand and peat land in equal parts. At the bottom of the pots, you need to make very large holes, or pour a layer of drainage. Adromiscus does not need a frequent transplant, only as needed, when the roots grow too much.

Reproduction: All adromiscuses are easily propagated by cuttings and even individual leaves. The leaves on the plant are very fragile. Falling, they easily root and give life to a new plant.

Problems in growing Adromiscus usually do not arise. The most important thing to pay attention to is watering, waterlogging of the substrate for Adromiscus can be disastrous. Here is what Irina Bagdasarova says: "This plant can withstand for a long time without watering, much longer than other succulents. It detkes in a continuous mode, tirelessly and almost at any time of the year, a leaf not lifted from the ground takes root and gives children one hundred percent. I decided to eat andromiscus only once - and definitely from excessive watering, I put it in a succulent garden. So it's best to keep it separate."

Growing problems

Pests are practically not affected, it is usually too tough for a tick. Sometimes it can be affected by mealybug.

This pest can be found in the axils of leaves - like white cotton-like lumps.
Pests can be selected by hand, wipe the leaves with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol or soapy solution.

From insecticides, you can advise to use actara or confidor. Actara is diluted at the rate of 1 g of the drug per 10 liters of water, confidor - 1 ml per 5-10 liters of water. Reprocessing after 2 weeks.
